Description

In this paper a novel optimized power switch count and high voltage gain transformerless inverter for solar PV applications is introduced. The proposed inverter topology is established by combining the features of a non-isolated high gain DC-DC converter and a four-switch conventional full bridge inverter. The presence of high gain DC-DC converter in the proposed topology helps in pumping power from lower voltage PV module into the utility grid at higher efficiency. Further, the proposed inverter configuration can eliminate the leakage currents completely due to negative terminal of PV module is directly connected to the grid neutral. Additionally, the inverter topology consists of only six controllable power switches which reduces the cost and increases the reliability of the grid connected system. A simple modulation technique is introduced to control the proposed high gain inverter topology. Furthermore, the theoretical efficiency of the proposed configuration is expected to be 95.5%. The validity of the proposed grid connected inverter topology is validated through a laboratory prototype of 1kVA system. The closed loop control strategy along with the key experimental results are presented in this paper.
