Control and protection mechanisms in gridconnected microgrids (MGs) can pose significant challenges due to the frequency fluctuations arising from variations in load demand or the intermittent nature of renewable energy sources (RES). Integrating a battery energy storage system (BESS) enhances grid stability, optimises power quality, and facilitates balance between the different loads and sources. This study presents a control scheme for BESS in MG, focusing on regulating system frequency. This control strategy is intricately tied to the state of charge (SOC) of the battery, ensuring optimal BESS availability and functionality. The BESS is connected to the MG via a currentcontrolled inverter. Results demonstrate effective mitigation of power supplied by the grid and frequency fluctuations across different scenarios with the proposed power control strategy for BESS.
