Description

Synchronization is of foremost importance in a network to ensure its correct performance. In the present work, we tackle the synchronization issue in a LoRaWAN network, where end devices may communicate with the remote server, via (terrestrial or satellite) gateways and backhauling links. We propose REACT, an application-based method which relies on the internal timer of the end device. The method can be implemented in any LoRaWAN end device, working in class A, and implementing any version of the standard. While not requesting any extra hardware module (GNSS receiver or RTC), it still offers an accuracy of the order of ms, comparable with the one achievable with the standard MAC-method. The feasibility and accuracy of the REACT method have been validated in a real testbed.
