The REACH CLP Helpdesk Luxembourg offers companies that use hazardous substances a training on tools to assess and compare chemicals hazardous properties and sustainability as decision support for replacing hazardous substances with safer substances or techniques. It will be held in English on April 12, 2018 (13h30-17h00) at the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) in Belvaux.
Substitution of hazardous chemicals is a fundamental measure to reduce risks to human health and the environment. In recent years, the European Union has continuously modernized legislation on chemical substances and introduced new principles that strongly encourage the substitution of chemicals with inherently hazardous properties, by limiting their use and phasing them out. Under REACH, the authorisation procedure aims at phasing out those substances that matter most, the Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC).
Although companies are increasingly considering replacing their hazardous substances with safer alternatives, this is still a challenge, in particular for SMEs. Substitution can directly impact a company's business and competitiveness, the anticipation and the timely preparation well for regulatory scrutiny enables companies to adapt well in advance to these legislative changes.
In light of the increasing importance of this challenge to replace hazardous substances, the REACH&CLP Helpdesk offers a training to support companies, in particular SMEs, providing:
· a global vision of the available databases containing information on the hazardous properties and regulatory scrutiny on substances used in their company,
· a first impression of the available tools to compare alternative chemicals and choose the best options,
· an interactive practical session (at computer stations).
The event is aimed at all companies, in particular SME, wishing to acquaint themselves with databases providing information on the regulatory status of substances as well as the various tools for analysing substitution possibilities. The training is free of charge and limited to 15 participants.
