  • July 9th-13th 2024: Gabriel and Alexandros participated in the 26th Europhysics Conference on Atomic and Molecular Physics of Ionized Gases (ESCAMPIG) held in Brno, Czechia. Gabriel presented his research on "Coherent scattering from ponderomotive-driven density perturbations for plasma diagnostics" while Alexandros gave an invited talk entitled "Non-resonant four-wave mixing diagnostics for the determination of non-equilibrium in plasmas" at the conference workshop "Advancements in non-equilibrium plasma laser diagnostics"
  • July 2nd 2024: Jérémy succesfully defended his MSc thesis with the title "Towards single shot coherent Rayleigh Brillouin scattering of a glow discharge" at the University of Luxembourg. Congratulations Jérémy!!!
  • June 18th 2024: Alexandros gave an invited talk at the 51st IEEE International Conference on Plasma Science (ICOPS) and the 4th Asia-Pacific Conference on Plasma and Terahertz Science (APCOPTS) which took place on June 16-20, 2024, in Beijing International Convention Center, Beijing, China with the title "Non-resonant, seedless coherent Rayleigh-Brillouin scattering four-wave mixing laser diagnostics for low temperature plasmas."
  • May 15th 2024: Rakibul Islam and Haden Covert join our group. Haden will be doing a summer internship on running computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations for our open-circuit wind tunnel, as well as designing a plan to convert it into a closed-circuit wind tunnel, within the framework of the FRAGOLA project. He is currently an undergraduate student at the Department of Aerospace Engineering, Texas A&M University, USA. Rakibul will be working on the Development of laser based, liquid flow diagnostics as part of the LIFOLA project. He holds a MSc in Mechanical Engineering from Chonnam National University, South Korea and a BSc in Engineering and Science from Jeonbuk National University, South Korea.   • May 1st 2024: Dr. Maria Mitrou joins our group. Maria will work as a Junior Research & Technology Associate on the NANObyNANO project, aiming to develop a fundamental and detailed understanding of nanoparticle synthesis by plasma. She obtained a joint PhD degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Patras in Greece and the University of Grenoble Alpes in France and holds a MSc in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Patras, Greece. Moien and welcome Maria!
     
  • April 28th 2024: Yingjie, Gabriel and Alexandros participated in the conference Frontiers in Low Temperature Plasma Diagnostics XV in Prague, Czechia. Alexandros gave an invited talk on 'Non-resonant four wave mixing laser diagnostics for low temperature plasmas', while Yinjjie and Gabriel presented posters on "Developing the next generation laser system for CRBS" and "Coherent scattering from ponderomotive-driven density perturbations for plasma diagnostics", respectively.

     
  • January 8th 2024: Atulya and Alexandros attend AIAA's 2024 SciTech Forum in Orlando. Atulya presented our latest work on "Single-shot coherent Rayleigh Brillouin scattering velocimetry of boundary layer in a laboratory scale sub-sonic wind tunnel", while Alexandros gave an invited talk on "A decade+ of developing custom, chirped, high intensity lasers: lessons learned and future directions".
     
  • December 11th 2023: Marios’ recent theoretical work on generating and controlling entangled coherent states of magnons (quanta of magnetic excitations) and phonons (quanta of vibrational excitations) with a superconducting qubit has been published as an Editor’s Suggestion in the December issue of Physical Review B (Vol. 108, No. 22)!
     
  • October 15th 2023: Massive thanks to the ANR and the FNR for funding our project NANObyNANO in collaboration with Dr. David Pai at the LPP in Ecole Polytechnique, Paris!
     
  • October 1st 2023: Dr. Marios Kounalakis and Jérémy Ramos join our group. Jérémy will perform his MSc thesis working on the FRAGOLA project for the characterization of the VDF of ions in a plasma. He holds a BSc in Physics and is currently pursuing his MSc in Physics at the University of Luxembourg. Marios will work as a Research & Technology Associate on the ULTRAION project, aiming to develop a suite of ultrafast optical diagnostics for investigating the dynamics of atmospheric pressure discharge in plasmas. He obtained his PhD in Physics from Delft University of Technology and holds a MSc in Physics from Leiden University in the Netherlands, a Master 2 in Particle Physics from Université Paris Cité in France, and a BSc in Physics from the University of Athens, Greece. Before joining LIST he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at Delft University of Technology and RWTH Aachen University in Germany. Moien and welcome Jérémy and Marios!

     

  • October 1st 2023: Gabriel attended the 26th International School on Low Temperature Plasma Physics: Basics and Applications and its master class on advanced diagnostics of atmospheric pressure plasmas. The Ruhr-Universität Bochum organizes the school and takes place in the physics center in Bad Honnef, Germany. The school offers a unique platform to network and interact with already-established leading researchers in the field, creating the potential for future collaborations and research opportunities.
     
  • October 1st 2023: Alexandros participated in the STSForum 2023 as part of the Luxembourg delegation appointed by the FNR, along with FNR's CEO, Dr. Marc Schiltz and Dr. Aurelia Chenu from Uni.lu

     
  • September 1st 2023: Ashwini Vaishnav joins our group to do his PhD thesis, working on the VERITAS project for the manipulation of motion of charged particles using high power laser beams.  Ashwini obtained his MSc in Physics from the Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi and his BSc in Physics from the Central University of Rajasthan in India.   • July 20th 2023: We built a subsonic wind tunnel! The wind tunnel designed by Santiago and Anna, was built by Jack and Atulya and is now operational! Jack will finish off his project by characterizing the flow field, using a Pitot tube. We can't wait to characterize wind flow above an airfoil using CRBS!

  • July 15th 2023: Thank you to the National Science Foundation (USA) and the Fonds National de la Recherche for funding our project "ULTRAION" in collaboration with PI Marien Simeni and co-PI Peter Bruggeman from the University of Minnesota!   • June 18th 2023: Atulya attended the 2023 Siegman International School on Lasers in Dublin, Ireland, organized by Optical (formerly the Optical Society of America). This is a week long summer school program that provides opportunities to interact and learn from pioneering laser researchers and experts from leading laser companies, highly-regarded professors and fellow students here

  • June 15th 2023: Alexandros gave a seminar at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory "Introduction to Fusion Energy and Plasma Physics Course" on "Low (and high) temperature plasma Laser Diagnostics". You can watch it here

  • May 15th 2023: Jack Molenhouse, undergraduate student from the Department of Aerospace Engineering, Texas A&M University, USA, joins our group for a summer internship. His project involves the construction and characterization of the low speed wind tunnel to be coupled with our CRBS diagnostics, that his fellow Aggies designed in the summer of 2022, within the framework of the FRAGOLA project.   • March 22nd 2023: Atulya successfully completed his first Comité d'Encadrement de Thèse (CET). Committee members were Dr. Aurélia Chenu (Uni.lu) and Dr. Arthur Dogariu (Texas A&M University). Congratulations Atulya!

  • February 23rd 2023: Atulya attended the 2023 Arctic Winter School held in Kiruna, Sweden. This program provides a unique opportunity to study space weather, Arctic climate systems and aurora effects commonly seen near the poles of the earth. This program was funded by UNIVERSEH and the University of Luxembourg.

  • February 15th 2023: Yingjie Zhao joins our group to do his PhD thesis, working in the FRAGOLA project for the development of a novel CRBS laser system and its further utilization for the characterization of neutral and plasma flows. Yingjie obtained his MSc in Aerospace Engineering from CentraleSupélec Université, France, and his BSc in Aeronautics Engineering from Northwestern Polytechnical University Xi'an, China.   • December 1st 2022: Gabriel Mauricio Flores Alfaro joins our group to do his PhD thesis, working in the FRAGOLA project for the characterization of the VDF of ions in a plasma, using CRBS. Gabriel obtained his MSc in Plasma Physics from Aix-Marseille Université, France, and his BSc in Physics with a Major in Applied Physics from Universidad De La Serena, Chile.   • September 15th  2022: Dr. Stefan Karatodorov joins our group as a Research Associate, working in the application of CRBS in neutral gas flows, as part of the FRAGOLA project. Stefan obtained his PhD in Physics from the Institute of Solid State Physics in Physics of Wave Processes, Bulgaria, his MSc in Quantum Electronics and Laser Technology and BSc in Engineering Physics, both from Sofia University, Boulgaria. Prior to joining LIST, he was a PostDoctoral Fellow at ELI Beamlines, Czechia and the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Bulgaria. Moien and welcome Stefan!

  • January 1st 2021: Alexandros starts as a Senior Research Associate at the Advanced Instrumentation for NanoAnalytics (AINA) group in the Scientific Instrumentation & Process Technology Unit (SIPT) within the Materials Research & Technology (MRT) Department of the Luxembourg Institute of Science & Technology.

Alexandros presented a workshop talk about “Non-resonant, four wave mixing laser diagnostic techniques”, as well as the group’s research endeavors with “Velocity distribution function measurement of heavy species in weakly ionized plasma flows via coherent Rayleigh-Brillouin scattering” (in collaboration with Kentaro Hara, Stanford University, and Mikhail Shneider, Princeton University).
