Euro-composites and Gradel join LIST initiative

The LIST Materials department is participating this week in Paris in the JEC World trade fair, a major event for composite technologies in Europe. This was the opportunity to officially announce the names of the first two members actively contributing to its Sustainable Composite Materials and Manufacturing Innovation Centre (SCMM-IC). The two contracts were successively signed on Wednesday 26 April with the two leaders of these two Luxembourg-based flagships.

Euro-Composites, one of the world's leading suppliers of honeycomb panels for the aeronautics, space and defence industries, and Gradel, producer of innovative lightweight structures for the space, aeronautics and mobility markets, have joined the new LIST innovation programme. These two initial signatures should lead to others in the coming months.

“We are delighted to have these first two active members of our innovation centre”, says Damien Lenoble, Director of the LIST Materials Department. “Their rapid support proof, if any were needed, that we are on the right track to integrate the results of our research into demonstrators of economic interest. The transition to ultralight and sustainable structures that make use of natural resources or industrial, agricultural or consumer waste is accelerating for players in the transport sector.”

Claude Maack, CEO of GRADEL, is also pleased to join the initiative: “GRADEL has industrialised in the past three years an innovative process for manufacturing lightweight structures for space. This development is the outcome of a collaborative development with LIST in a joint laboratory. GRADEL aims to set a new standard with GRAM (Gradel Robotic Additive Manufacturing) into industry. Therefore, the collaboration with the SCMM is of strategic importance for meeting the expectations of the market, as Sustainable Lightweight Design & Production meeting circularity criteria will lead to success.”

Responding to the challenges of the transport sector

As a reminder, the Sustainable Composite Materials & Manufacturing innovation centre is an innovation programme set up and managed by the LIST Materials Department. It focuses its research and technology activities on the development of the next generation of lightweight and sustainable composite material demonstrators, responding to the future challenges of the transport sector towards zero emission mobility. The ambition of the centre is to accelerate the use of low-carbon composite materials and processes for functional parts that will meet the needs of the vehicles of the future. The initiative is supported by four major European transport players, namely Toyota, Airbus, Thales Alenia Space and Alstom, who share their respective vision of the technological needs of the vehicles of the future.
