LIST lays foundations for 3D composite printing partnership with Singapore

Published on 17/11/2016

On 15 November 2016, the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) was part of the Luxembourg delegation, chaired by Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel, that went on a working visit to Singapore. The perfect opportunity for LIST to formalise the collaboration effort with the Singapore Center for 3D Printing (SC3DP) of the Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

A global economy fuelled by innovation

The objective of this visit for Xavier Bettel was to meet his counterpart Lee Hsien Loong in a bid to strengthen bilateral political and economic ties. Luxembourg and Singapore have a common interest to bet on a global economy fuelled by innovation.

In view of the research and development ties, both Prime Ministers were present at the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) between LIST’s fellow partner, the Luxembourg National Research Fund and the National Research Foundation from Singapore. From this angle, the collaboration in scientific research will be intensified and joint research projects in materials science and finance technology will be implemented.

LIST officially partnering with the Singapore Center for 3D Printing

The cooperation between Luxembourg and Singapore was sealed more specifically through a signed MOU between LIST and SC3DP. This was the concrete realisation of the actions initiated on June 2016 during the joint work session at LIST premises. The visit of the Singapore delegation allowed to prepare a common roadmap for a research and development partnership drawing on their respective expertise in composite materials and 3D printing.

In this context, LIST and Singapore Center for 3D Printing mutually commit to develop their respective skills in the materials sector where they are complementary. While the strengths of LIST lie in the development and the fine tuning of composite materials, the strengths of centre reside in printing technology. A pooling of the two will allow rapid progress in research on 3D printing using new materials.
