npSCOPE, A New European Project

Published on 20/01/2017

On January 17-18, 2017, the nanoparticle-scope, a new integrated instrument for accurate and reproducible physico-chemical characterization of nanoparticles (npSCOPE) project, funded by the European Commision Horizon 2020 programme for research and innovation, had its kick-off meeting at the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST).

At this two-day event, representatives of the nine project partners coming from very prestigious research centers, universities and companies from all over Europe met to discuss and launch the various R&D activities of npSCOPE

npSCOPE aims to develop a new integrated, optimized instrument to provide a comprehensive physico-chemical characterization of nanoparticles both in their original form and incorporated into complex matrices such as biological tissue.

In addition to being the Coordinator of the project, LIST will also be in charge of designing, manufacturing and benchmarking the instrument dedicated to the characterization of nanoparticles.

The results of the project will be primarily applied within the framework of nano-toxicology activities, including studies on the toxicity of nanoparticles absorbed by the human body orally (nanoparticles contained in food), through breathing and via the skin. Beyond this main application field in nano-toxicology, the npSCOPE instrument will have a variety of other application areas ranging from the semiconductor and battery industry to life sciences.
