Description

We report on the progress towards utilizing coherent Rayleigh Brillouin scattering (CRBS) to thermodynamically characterize the boundary layer of gas flows over an airfoil. This is performed via velocimetry measurements for a flow over an airfoil in a custom built sub-sonic open circuit wind tunnel. The single-shot, single-color CRBS scheme is implemented for probing a single location in the wind tunnel test section for the first time. The velocity vector is estimated from the Doppler shift observed in the CRBS spectrum of the flow when compared to the calibrated CRBS lineshape in quiescent conditions. Each measurement is compared and validated with Pitot probe measurements in the wind tunnel.
