A step forward for doctoral training

Published on 27/10/2016

On 26 October 2016, in the presence of the Minister for Higher Education and Research, Marc Hansen, heads of the University of Luxembourg and four Luxembourgish research institutions, the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH), the Luxembourg Institute of Socio-Economic Research (LISER), the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) and the Max-Planck-Institute Luxembourg for International, European and Regulatory Procedural Law (MPI) signed a collaboration agreement for joint doctoral training.

This agreement regulates the details of the joint doctoral training programme between the University and the research institutions. The supervision of PhD students will now be provided by one of the signatory institutions and the doctoral degrees will be awarded by the University.

The joint doctoral training programmes will be established in the research areas defined by the University of Luxembourg and the other signatory institutions. The partners have identified thirteen areas of joint research, including physics and materials science, biomedicine, as well as law, economics and finance.

"This agreement is a concrete result from discussions about cooperation and coordination of public research, conducted during the first edition of the 'Assises de la Recherche' in 2014," said Marc Hansen, Minister for Higher Education and Research. "The formalized coordination between the actors of public research is necessary for the purpose of increasing efficiency and maximizing the potential impact of public research activities in Luxembourg."
