On 13 June 2017, the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) and the Business Federation Luxembourg (FEDIL) held a conference “Obligations of companies participating in the European Emissions Trading System (EU ETS)” at the premises of the FEDIL.

More than 30 participants, including experts from industry and representatives from the Luxembourgish Environmental Administration (AEV) met to discuss and clarify challenges of the annual reporting and verification of EU ETS emissions.

Martine Kemmer (Administration de l’Environnement) gave an overview on the historical evolution of the EU ETS and explained the various and dispersed regulatory obligations for reporting, verification and declaration including their relevant timelines in a systematic presentation. She also clarified definitions of small emitters and presented the interface of the ETS register.

Henri Wagener (FEDIL) commented on the future evolution of the ETS at European level which was of particular interest for participating companies.

Industry experts took advantage of the opportunity to clarify their questions. Discussions were continued at an informal networking cocktail at FEDIL premises.

The event was hosted by the Business Federation Luxembourg (FEDIL) and organised in the framework of the “Betriber & Emwelt” series aimed at increasing regular interaction and open dialogue on environmental topics between Luxembourgish stakeholders.

The agenda and the presentation of the seminar are available on the event webpage.
