LIST at Makerfest 2016

Published on 27/12/2016

On 19-20 December 2016, LIST participated in the first Makerfest event that was organised at the Forum Geesseknäppchen in Luxembourg city.

Makerfest celebrated the first year of BEE CREATIVE, a national initiative promoting creativity, talent and entrepreneurship spirit in the context of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) among young people. More than 30 workshops allowed the audience to discover new technologies, programming techniques, robotics, 3D printing, IT, etc. The scientists of LIST prepared a workshop named "Program your own robot " offering the opportunity to understand the process behind building robots in an interactive way. In this workshop, visitors could discover the basic concepts of programming, with physical blocs and an interactive table, with the aim of controlling a robot to exit a labyrinth.

About 1,200 young students of primary and secondary schools between 8 and 18 old participated at the different workshops, as well as groups from day-care institutions, youth houses and families. Around 250 visitors also showed up at the event, summing up to a total of not less than 1,450 visitors that attended Makerfest. Among them was Claude Meisch, the Minister of National Education, Childhood and Youth, accompanied by Mady Delvaux-Stehres, the Ambassador of the European campaign “E-Skills for Jobs”.

Once again, this was a successful event where LIST researchers could share their knowledge with the community building awareness of the importance of new technologies in our daily life.
