On 14 March 2017, the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) welcomed a Portuguese delegation led by his Excellency Carlos Pereira Marques, Ambassador of Portugal in Luxembourg, Professor Paulo Ferrão, President of the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and Mr. Luis Serina, Coordinator of the FCT Space.
The visit was an opportunity to meet with the head of the Environmental Research and Innovation (ERIN) department of LIST, Professor Lucien Hoffmann, to discuss future synergies and potential collaborations in the domains of circular economy and urban ecology.
The ERIN department brings together with its of more than 170 life sciences, environmental, and IT scientists and engineers, the necessary interdisciplinary knowledge and skills to tackle major environmental challenges our society is facing today: climate change mitigation, ecosystem resilience, sustainable energy systems, efficient use of renewable resources, environmental pollution prevention and control. The topics of circular economy and ecosystem services in urban environments are also high on the research agenda of the ERIN department.
FCT is the national funding agency that supports science, technology and innovation, in all scientific domains, under responsibility of the Ministry for Science, Technology and Higher Education of Portugal. FCT ensures Portugal’s participation in international scientific organisations, fosters the participation of the scientific community in international projects and promotes knowledge transfer between R&D centres and industry.
LIST and FCT will work together to promote common activities in circular economy among their countries and Europe.
