LIST’s strategic approach confirmed by new performance contract

On 18 January 2018, the Minister Delegate for Higher Education and Research, Marc Hansen, on the one hand, and Georges Bourscheid, chairman of the board of directors, and Fernand Reinig, chief executive officer a.i., on the other hand, signed the multi-annual agreement between the State and the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST).

"I would like to congratulate LIST staff on their achievements in the first performance contract that ended in late 2017", said Marc Hansen when signing the new contract that unites LIST with its parent ministry for the period 2018-2021.

In the framework of this multi-annual agreement, the State allocations to the LIST public research centre will amount to 186.07 million euros, an increase of some 18% compared to the multi-year agreement 2014-2017. These State allocations will enable LIST to develop its three priority thematic areas, namely:

• environmental research and innovation;
• development of innovative IT solutions;
• advanced research on materials in applicable technologies.

In total, the State will invest 1.44 billion euros in research and higher education for the period from 2018 to 2021. Financial resources made available by the State are growing by 284 million euros , corresponding to an increase of 25% compared to the period from 2014 to 2017.

LIST's mission as a research and technology organization (RTO) remains the same as that defined in the law of 4 December 2014 for organizing public research centres. The vision for LIST by 2025 is an RTO anchored in Luxembourg, with a strong influence in Europe, positively impacting the country's socio-economic development through its oriented research and technological development activities.
