When ICT meets Cultural Heritage

Published on 30/10/2017

In the framework of its activities in IT for Innovative Services (ITIS) as part of the European research project CrossCult, the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) has organised on 26 October 2017 the seminar "When ICT meets Cultural Heritage" at the Belval Innovation Campus (LU).

Hosted by the Human Dynamics in Cognitive Environment (HDCE) unit’s team, the seminar brought about 40 persons together. Many Luxembourgish institutions linked to tourism and culture responded to the invitation and experimented with the beta version of one CrossCult application dedicated to city exploration. The Luxembourg City Tourism Office, the National Center of Audiovisuel, the Fonds Belval and national Museums expressed interest for this Smart City application that aims at disseminating cultural heritage thanks to new technologies, and at helping people better understand, reflect and discuss national and European Culture and history.

This live experimentation was supported by a thorough presentation of the CrossCult project from its coordinator, Dr. Ioanna Lykourentzou, member of the HDCE unit. The participants had then the chance to test the smart city application through a hands-on experiment guided by Dr. Catherine Jones, from the University of Luxembourg. The seminar continued with talks by two internationally renowned experts who gave strong, meaningful insights about how ICT can impact positively Cultural Heritage as well as citizens' and museum visitors' experience: Prof. Tsvi Kuflik from the University of Haifa, Israel and Prof. Manolis Wallace from the University of Peloponnese, Greece.

At the end of the day, 20 participants completed this learning experience at the HDCE LAB where Thibaud Latour and his team have introduced them to interactive and collaborative new technologies developed by LIST.

>> The next event aiming at revealing the final version of this CrossCult application is already being discussed for 2018. You can already contact us at event@list.lu to get more information about all our future developments.
