Bio-field effect transistors (BioFETs) are a modification of the building-blocks of the microprocessors present in cell phones and computers, where the signal is regulated by the binding of molecular biomarkers of interest. With the introduction of nano-technologies and their miniaturization, BioFETs became extremely sensitive but at the cost of loss of reliability. At LIST we have developed a design that combines high sensitivity with a high signal. In the demonstrator, a nano-device is coupled to a simple display to show the changes of acidity in different cooking preparations.
Atmospheric Pressure Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapour Deposition (APPECVD) technology has all the abilities to be processing at industrial scale. By comparison with other techniques, this one shows different advantages for the production of nanoscale functional surfaces: (1) large-area deposition or 3D dimensional shape; (2) high throughput of material to be treated (m.s-1); (3) smooth and uniform film on the whole surface; (4) high deposition rates; (5) reliable and stable process for continuous production (24/24 h); (6) low gas consumption and utilization of inexpensive and/or easily recycled/reused gases. LIST has now an international leading position in this R&D field and the new MPG society is now able to be a full service provider of plasma coating solutions and of technology.
Floods have enormous environmental, social and economic consequences and it is expected that climate change combined with a growing global population in ill-planned flood-prone areas will increase their impacts in the future. To help stakeholders mitigating inundation risk and give them access to a comprehensive, historical and up-to-date record of events, we have developed HASARD, that is a satellite Earth Observation-based flood mapping software implemented on the high capacity GPOD infrastructure operated by ESA. HASARD exploits satellite images to systematically, rapidly and automatically produce, record and disseminate accurate floodwater maps in near real-time. Visit our demo booth to discover how HASARD keeps track of the ongoing Monsoon-related floods in South East Asia!
Respiratory sensitizing chemicals are of high societal concern and early detection of such hazards from new chemicals during product development can contribute to resource efficient development of saver products. We have developed the first 3D-in vitro assay that can identify sensitizers and differentiate them from respiratory irritants avoiding animal experiments. Visit the demo booth to see how such an in vitro assay works and how it can support your product development.
Piezo actuators generate ultrasonic vibrations on a glass screen and modify the friction of your finger on it. LIST technology allows for integrating these actuators on glass, with no need for external bulky ceramics. Our technology relies on the deposition of state-of-the-art transparent piezoelectric films on glass. They are able to generate local vibrations that you can feel on your fingers. The targeted applications go from mobile phones and tablets to cars interiors but also fridges and ovens in your kitchen.

To understand the strain mechanisms of materials or complex objects is a major step of R&D processes. The Digital Image Correlation (DIC) is an experimental technique that allows measuring strain fields without contact with the specimen or the product. It consists in comparing pictures at different steps of a deformation and relate them with the corresponding applied load. At the demo, we record the pictures during a live tensile test and we illustrate what kind of results we can get with the data post-treatment.
Anaerobic digestion (AD) is a natural microbes driven process of biomass degradation that is regarded as an environmentally friendly model of bio-waste valorisation. As the climate change is now a reality and the fossil resources are depleting, AD appears to be one of the best solutions for a renewable and sustainable production of energy, bio-fertilizers and green chemicals, all integrated in a local circular bio-economy concept. Visit our booth to discover our research work and solutions for improving the AD technology!
The construction sector is facing a new world of opportunities thanks to the huge amount of data made available through the expansion of IoT. However, as long as this data stays disconnected to the actual decision making process of the construction site, it will be little less than a new kind of overwhelming bureaucracy. Therefore, managing this data in order to support integrated, structured and collaborative decision-making, based on Lean Construction's best practices, is the stepping-stone towards economical performance, cultural change and technological leaps. Using IoT and visual control, LIST's “AndON” Platform aims to be the missing link between planning and reality on a construction site, as it will enable users to collect, manage and change data on-the-go, along with the reality on-site.
3D printing is a recently developed production technique adapted for structures that have been impossible to build previously. We present 3D printed controlled magnetic composite parts formulated and printed in our lab, which could find direct application in the design of innovative enhanced rotors and stators for miniaturized motors and generators for energy harvesting applications."
Nano-analytical techniques and instruments providing both excellent spatial resolution and high-sensitivity chemical information are of extreme importance in materials science and life sciences for investigations at the nanoscale. At LIST, we developed VECTOR500 SIMS, which is an instrument allowing chemical microscopy at a world record resolution. Come and discover this unique tool at our booth!
Tires are not only produced with rubber and advanced materials but also increasingly with data. Within the strategic collaboration between LIST and Goodyear, the potential of data science is explored all along the life cycle of a tire. Data can deliver value in complex engineering, in tire testing and in developing new services to customers.
Radiological incidents whether caused by acts of terrorism or accidents pose a significant threat to the public and first responders. As a result effective training solutions are required. Augmented reality coupled with simulated items such as sources and equipment can provide a safer, quicker and easier method of training for first responders when compared to current approaches.
Cognitive environments are connected physical spaces that provide digital tools for workers to achieve their tasks while sensing, understanding and ultimately measuring their activity to provide them with feedbacks and feedforwards in a natural and multimodal way. Technologies that equip such spaces consist in a blend of Artificial Intelligence, sensors, data analytics, data visualisation, collaborative devices and connected objects interacting with and adapting to the users. In the booth, the visitor will manipulate a collaborative decision-making application and discover how a cognitive environment works.

Remote sensing provides spatial and spectral information that allows for characterizing plant health and nutrition supply. Thus, remote sensing techniques provide essential information for precision farming where applications of pesticides or fertilizer can be reduced and tailored to the crop needs. For example, drone based very-high-resolution images can help in detecting and monitoring diseases in vineyards. Satellite-based earth observation offer a large spatial perspective of the nutrient status. At our stand, we present the nitrogen status of wheat crops utilizing satellite imagery of Sentinel-2.
Commonly air quality and biometeorological variables - that might negatively affect human health - are monitored via fixed measurements stations. The chemical analysis of fine particles is conducted temporarily delayed in analytical laboratories. The environmental monitoring vehicle contains a unique combination of bio-meteorological and chemical measurement devices in order to assess local air quality at almost any location, independently from external power supply. Fine and nano-particles and their chemical composition can be analysed in near real time and in combination with meteorological variables enables a direct source apportionment. Target markets are policy support for Luxemburgish ministries, communes but also fundamental and applied research.
