Join us online on 6 March 2025 for an insightful discussion on non-lethal monitoring technologies and discover our novel imaging solution, which aims to enhance taxonomic resolution by automatically capturing high-resolution, multi-angle images of individual live insects.
Pollinators play a crucial role in agriculture, food security, and ecosystem stability. However, many beneficial insect species are experiencing significant declines across Europe, raising concerns for biodiversity and environmental sustainability. National and international initiatives, such as the EU Pollinator Monitoring Scheme, aim to track these changes, but traditional monitoring methods remain costly, labor-intensive, and often rely on lethal sampling techniques.
To address these challenges, new technologies are emerging to enhance pollinator monitoring with minimal impact on insect populations. Innovative tools, including bioacoustics, entomological radar, infrared sensors, and camera-based monitoring, offer promising solutions. However, most image-based monitoring systems are either disruptive or lethal, limiting their usability for conservation research and citizen science initiatives.
