Come and meet our researchers at the Science Festival!

The Science Festival began this morning, November 12th, at the Abbaye de Neumünster and got off to a great start. Today and all day tomorrow, the festival is reserved for students at schools in Luxembourg, who are participating in structured, hands-on workshops.

Now in its tenth year, the Festival will open its doors to the public this weekend from 10:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday, 14th and 15th of November 2015. As well as the stands, visitors can also attend three shows, where some of the secrets of science will be revealed.

This year, LIST has four stands at the Festival, representing our three research departments:

• Electricity and Smart Materials (MRT)
  In this workshop, students learn about conductors and insulators, before testing different materials to find out their properties. They are also introduced to the behaviour of semi-conductors and are able to make their own circuits.
  
  Smart Materials and Everyday Life (MRT)
  This stand demonstrates how energy can be changed when paired with smart materials, for example, electrical energy into mechanical, commonly seen in camera shutters, or the effects of different temperatures. 
  
  
• Program your Robot (ITIS)
  Using the tangible tables, students learn about basic programming and put together a series of commands in order to make a robot move through the maze located next to the tables.
  
  
• Helping Moselle Wines Compete at the Top-Level Worldwide (ERIN)
  This stand, open Saturday and Sunday, shows the differences between two Luxembourgish winemaking regions, as well as demonstrating software showing how data on factors influencing wine quality can be used to give recommendations to wine producers on the growing process. Wine from the two regions can be tasted.
