We propose an advanced chemo-optoelectronic sensor for gaseous CO2 measurement to be used in the building automation. The measurement principle is based on the optical monitoring of the color change of a dye. The sensor is accurate, reliable, and producible at low cost. It consists of a hierarchically structured CO2 sensing active layer, a micro-optical sensor receiver unit, a lock-in based and a microprocessor based electronics. The system is modular for easy adaption to different measurement ranges or accuracy levels.
