Description

The outcome of the interaction of biological medium with material interfaces has significant implications for a range of biomedical devices/interfaces with the goal of interrogating or controlling the response of biomolecules or biological cells. Control over the material interface properties is thus the key to driving the desired biological end outcomes. A fine degree of control over the material interface is achievable if one could engineer the material structure and functionality down to molecular lengthscales. The challenge though is to be able to tinker with the material interface at these lengthscales, and to quantify its impact on the biological end-outcomes. In this direction, we present the use of molecular tools to engineer biointerfaces at the nanoscale, and tools to deliver quantitative feedback of nano-bio interactions.
