In the South of Luxembourg, the former industrial wasteland of Belval has given way to a new urban district, which began to emerge in 2005. A real reconversion challenge, with the aim of becoming the most important education and research pole in Luxembourg, the site has gradually grown to welcome private businesses, public institutions, living accommodation and shops.
An essential actor in the Luxembourgish research scene, LIST has relocated to this unique site, both full of history and with big ambitions. In 2015, it moved a large part of its activities to the Maison de l’Innovation, situated between blast furnaces A and B, on the site of the old cast house of blast furnace B. The Maison de l’Innovation also houses Luxinnovation and the professional ongoing training centre, Dr. Widong, and together with the other buildings on the site devoted to specific themes, such as the Maison des Sciences Humaines or the Maison du Savoir, forms the heart of the revival of this former industrial wilderness.
Thanks to the connections and exceptional potential for joint collaboration brought about by the grouping together of Luxembourgish research players on this unique site, where we find, among others, the University of Luxembourg, the business incubator Technoport, Luxinnovation and the National Research Fund (FNR), LIST is at the very centre of a privileged site enabling it to successfully fulfil its ambitions.
