The Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Jurgen Joossens as its new Deputy CEO. Following the approval of the Board of Directors on 22 November, Dr. Joossens will assume his duties on 15 March 2025. Additionally, LIST is delighted to confirm the appointment of Sylvie Weyland as its Human Resources Director, effective immediately.
Dr. Jurgen Joossens brings a wealth of expertise to LIST, with a distinguished career spanning academia, industry, and knowledge transfer. Since 2016, he has served as Head of the Valorisation Office (TTO) at the University of Antwerp, Belgium. His previous roles include Vice President Finance and Business Development at ASTP, Europe’s premier association for knowledge transfer professionals, and membership on the Board of Directors at UBIS NV, the University of Antwerp’s incubator. Since 2017, he has also represented TTO Flanders in the National Associations Advisory Committee (NAAC).
As LIST’s Deputy CEO, Dr. Joossens will lead the Institute’s valorisation activities, drawing on his experience to improve knowledge and technology dissemination. His expertise in identifying optimal valorisation strategies will play a major role in strengthening LIST’s impact and contributions to the scientific and innovation ecosystem.
Dr. Joossens holds a pharmaceutical degree (2000) and a PhD in medicinal chemistry (2005). His professional journey includes a scientist position at Janssen Pharmaceutica (J&J) and a tenure as Valorisation Manager at the Antwerp Drug Discovery Network. A prolific contributor to science, he has co-authored over 60 publications and is a co-inventor on nine patent applications.

In addition to Dr. Jurgen Joossens’ appointment, Sylvie Weyland, a longstanding member of LIST, has been appointed as the Institute’s Human Resources Director. With over 31 years of service, Sylvie brings unparalleled knowledge of LIST’s culture and operations. Since September 2023, she has served as HR Director a.i., ensuring continuity and excellence in human resources management. Her strong HR acumen, coupled with her experience in the research and innovation sector, positions Sylvie as an invaluable asset to LIST’s Executive Committee.
